Official press release from the Arthur Laurey Campaign;
Committee to Elect Art Laurey for Sheriff of Chemung County
ART LAUREY STILL FIGHTING FOR YOUR RIGHT TO CHOOSE ON ELECTION DAY!
As everyone knows, Arthur Laurey lost the Republican primary to the incumbent, Christopher Moss. It was further announced by the Chemung County Board of Elections that, as of right now, there will be no other choice for voters in the general election for Sheriff, as Sheriff Moss will be running “unopposed.” The Sheriff’s campaign team challenged Art’s petitions to run as an independent Party called the Liberty and Justice Party. The Sheriff’s team not only challenged the signatures of over 700 possible voters, but the will of the voters as well. Due to minor errors and technicalities, Liberty and Justice will not be presented to the voters as an alternative to the incumbent Republican Sheriff. Essentially, on Election Day—November 5th, 2013—the voters of Chemung County will have no choice but to keep the incumbent for their Sheriff.
However, it was fitting that on September 11th, 2013—Patriot Day—that Art Laurey spent the day fighting for the people of Chemung County so they could have a choice on November 5th. We have filed the necessary paperwork to allow for a judicial review of the Sheriff’s team’s objections to the Liberty and Justice petitions.
One of the most fundamental and foundational rights of liberty that we have is the right to vote…the right to choose our leaders. Next week, in the courts, it will be decided if the good citizens of this County will be able to exercise that right. Next week, it will be decided if you will have the opportunity to choose Liberty and Justice on election day.
